I recently visited family in Keystone, Colorado, and while I loved being in the mountains, one thing I noticed was how much I missed the historic charm of New England- the cobblestone streets, old railroads, and the distinct older buildings that helped shape cities like Boston, Hartford, and Portland. I take for granted getting to call this home, but there’ s something so special about living in one of the oldest parts of our country. As the U. S. turns 250 years old, it’ s nice to take a minute to appreciate the architecture unique to New England, and celebrate those who are creating the next generation of resilient structures that continue to define our region.
That resilience carries over to the Healthcare Facilities we are featuring in this issue, as teams are overcoming challenges to design and construct buildings that will continue to serve
their occupants well into the future. Paul Bedard of Haynes Group, Inc. shares a unique comparison between the owner side and the general contractor side of healthcare construction, where he talks about what owners actually value, where owners and GCs disconnect, and the critical factors in getting it right. Read his article on page 28.
Neurology and Infusion Center of New England
Timberline Construction recently wrapped up a project for the Neurology and Infusion Center of New England in Foxborough, Mass. The full interior renovation transformed an existing 2-story medical office building into a purpose-built outpatient care environment that doubles the center’ s clinical footprint, expands services, and positions the growing practice for its next chapter. Get all of the details on page 17.
Mariama Nguajah, Diana“ Success” Kumba, and Isatu Jalloh were hired and trained on site of the Maternal Center of Excellence( MCOE) construction in Sierra Leone.
One story in this issue that particularly stayed with me was the feature on the new construction project in Sierra Leone by Rosanna Niosi of Build Health International. In an industry often focused on square footage, schedules, and budgets, this story serves as a reminder that construction also has the power to create hope, opportunity, and long-term impact for entire communities. It’ s a meaningful example of how the built environment can directly influence quality of life far beyond our own region. Read the story on page 24.
