Medford, MA – Bowdoin Construction announced it recently completed the Tufts University Blakeley Hall project in Medford.

The project involved a full gut / renovation of a 3-story, 29,000sf residence hall originally built in 1926 as graduate housing. The modernization transformed the building into a new undergraduate residence, expanding the capacity from 85 to 120 beds in an interconnected neighborhood configuration with lounges,

study spaces, and all-gender bathrooms.

MEP systems were upgraded throughout to achieve whole-building energy efficiency and support the university’ s decarbonization goals. The building envelope was rehabilitated, and new windows were installed to improve the building’ s overall performance. A new elevator provides full accessibility and achieves code compliance. DiMella Shaffer served as the project architect on the renovation.
