Milestone Transforms University of New Haven’ s Peterson Performance Center
West Haven, CT – Milestone Construction Services, LLC served as construction manager for the Peterson Performance Center – 3rd Floor Tenant Fit-Out at the University of New Haven, delivering a carefully coordinated higher education project within an accelerated schedule and active campus environment. This phase of construction marked a significant step in advancing the university’ s athletic infrastructure by transforming unfinished third-floor space into a fully functional operations hub for its Athletics Department.

Spanning approximately 13,600sf, the interior fit-out included construction of dedicated coach offices, football office and meeting room suites, flexible multipurpose meeting spaces, collaborative work areas, a kitchen prep area, and new restroom facilities. The meeting rooms were designed with adaptability
in mind, incorporating folding divider partitions and integrated audiovisual systems to accommodate everything from internal strategy sessions to larger town hall gatherings and board meetings. The design emphasized functionality, flexibility, and long-term performance to support the evolving needs of the department.
Designed by Apicella + Bunton Architects with MEP / FP engineering provided by Centek Engineering, the project required detailed coordination across multiple trades and building systems. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, glazing, millwork, acoustical ceiling systems, and specialty finishes all had to be integrated seamlessly within the existing structure. manager, Milestone oversaw scheduling, subcontractor coordination, procurement tracking, and quality control to ensure the final build aligned with both the design vision and operational objectives.
One of the project’ s primary challenges was executing construction within an occupied and fully operational facility. With active programming occurring on the lower levels, the team implemented strategic phasing plans, coordinated shutdowns with precision, and carefully managed site logistics to minimize disruption. Clear communication with university stakeholders and trade partners allowed the team to anticipate constraints and adjust sequencing as needed.
Given the compressed timeline, longlead materials and critical path items were identified early in preconstruction. Milestone worked closely with subcontractors and suppliers to establish material tracking systems, expedite submittals, and align procurement with installation milestones. This proactive approach maintained momentum throughout construction and ensured that each phase progressed efficiently. The completed third-floor fit-out enhances daily athletic operations while providing modern, flexible spaces that support recruitment and long-term program development.
