Hopkinton, MA – Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects( GRLA) has completed approximately 62,000sf of laboratory and manufacturing renovations at Revvity’ s Hopkinton campus.
The project, which began in April 2024, took place entirely within existing facilities. It brought together the requirements of multiple laboratory groups in a single program to consolidate and modernize operations while leaving room for future growth. Completed spaces include research laboratories, clean rooms, manufacturing areas and warehousing, along with large cold rooms and walk-in freezers.
The building systems work was extensive. It included more than 60 fume hoods, specialized scrubber systems and significant HVAC infrastructure.
GRLA coordinated laboratory functions, equipment, circulation and utilities as one integrated plan within the constraints of the existing buildings.
“ The success of this project came from understanding not only what each laboratory group needed, but how all of the spaces, equipment, people, and building systems needed to work together,” said Dina Soliman, GRLA project manager.“ Our role was to translate those operational requirements into a cohesive environment that supports Revvity’ s work today while providing flexibility for future growth.”
The project team included BER as MEP engineer, Timberline Construction as construction manager and JLL as owner’ s project manager.
Cambridge, MA – Siena Construction recently completed the renovation of a university lab where researchers study the evolution and impact of venom across species, blending wet and dry lab science in a single, dynamic environment.
The 5,000sf transformation on the first floor of the Greater Boston campus’ s Biological Labs Building includes a 2,800sf lab suite and a 2,200sf office area. The lab suite is complete with open research zones, tissue culture and imaging rooms, and specialized seawater and fume hood systems. The office area includes open student seating, faculty offices, flexible collaboration spaces, a kitchenette, a meeting room, and a lounge / wellness area.

MEP, gypsum board systems, flooring, and millwork upgrades, as well as lab casework installation.
The project represented Siena’ s third renovation within the campus’ s research department building over the past three years. Additional upgrades have included labs studying the comparative genomics of cephalopods and a controlledenvironment plant growth chamber.
Designs were created by Paprocki Architecture and RFS Engineering. Siena worked closely with owner’ s project managers from TERVA Corporation and the campus’ s facilities and research team. Representatives of the firm say construction progressed with minimal disruption to ongoing research and maximum safety on the active campus.
