WOMEN in CONSTRUCTION
A supplement to High-Profile Monthly
PUBLISHER: Anastasia Barnes
Publisher’ s Message
I can remember a time when a woman walking onto a jobsite meant she was the exception. Today, she is a project executive, an estimator, a superintendent, a project engineer, a CEO, a business owner. Just like me.
The AEC industry is still evolving and let’ s be honest, not always as fast as we’ d like, but progress is real. It’ s visible in corner offices, boardrooms, and in the field. Women are leading design and construction firms, strengthening safety cultures, mentoring the next generation. And yes … changing what leadership looks like in an industry built on grit and resilience.
This industry rewards those who show up, solve problems, and deliver. The women in this space do exactly that, every single day. At High-Profile, we don’ t produce this edition as a“ spotlight” once a year and move on. We produce it because these women deserve recognition not as a trend, but as an integral part of this industry.
In this issue, you’ ll read about women who are leading with purpose; women who have bet on themselves and are
expanding opportunities for women and girls to pursue meaningful careers in the industry; women with the passion and commitment to design and transform our built environment.
I had the privilege of interviewing Shabana Basij- Rasikh, founder of the School of Leadership, Afghanistan( SOLA), and a recent Elevate Prize winner. Shabana is this year’ s keynote speaker for the Women Who Build summit in April. I’ m both humbled and honored to share my conversation with someone who is making such a profound impact and advancing opportunities for girls worldwide. Read the full interview on page 4.
Our industry is stronger when leadership is diverse. It is smarter and more resilient when perspectives widen and opportunity expands. It’ s a pleasure to share the stories of the women whose talents, persistence and tenacity are defining today’ s workplace and creating diverse and successful teams. The future is bright, and we’ re just getting started!
