Careers in architecture and interior design are long and seldom linear. Real growth depends on things that sound simple but take sustained effort to nurture: mentorship, opportunities to develop new skills, and the chance to lead before you feel completely ready. National Career Development Month, observed every November, offers a fitting moment to reflect on a commitment we uphold all year: investing in the people who make Amenta Emma what it is.
Building a culture of professional growth takes consistency and intention. AIA New England has recognized Amenta Emma as an Emerging Professional Friendly Firm for six consecutive years. That word, consecutive, matters. We have
|
supported rising architects and interior designers through changing economic conditions and a growing practice. Over time, this ongoing investment has become a reflection of our character rather than coincidence.
The impact of this investment is evident in the people our industry has recognized. The AIA Connecticut Emerging Professional Award has honored Amenta Emma team members over the years, including Thomas Barker and Alexis Hoff in 2021, Joy Ortiz-Drake in 2025, and James Regnier in 2026. In interior design, the pattern continues, with Casey Leardi named a 2026 ASID Ones to Watch Scholar. Different people, different stages of their careers, and the same steady investment in their growth.
These achievements reflect everyday choices: encouraging licensure and continuing education, supporting involvement in professional organizations, and trusting people with meaningful responsibility on projects. Beyond the awards, team members continue to advance their careers by earning architectural licenses, pursuing NCIDQ certification, and obtaining specialized
|
credentials. These milestones strengthen individual expertise and expand the knowledge we bring to our work.
Professional development doesn’ t end once a career is established. As our industry continues to evolve, continued learning helps us adapt, take on new challenges, and bring fresh perspectives to our work. That kind of growth depends on both individual initiative and organizational support. It happens when a firm creates an environment where people
|
feel supported in their development and embrace opportunities to grow with curiosity, commitment, and purpose.
During National Career Development Month, we’ re reminded that investing in people is an investment in the future of our profession. At Amenta Emma, we’ re building that future one opportunity, one achievement, and one career at a time. It is an ongoing commitment, and the part of our work that makes me proudest.
