Historic $ 446M Westhill High School Underway

Stamford, CT— Students are returning to school across New England, and at Westhill High School they will have a unique opportunity to watch the construction of the future home of the Vikings right outside their classroom windows.
Westhill High School, built in 1969, has one of the largest enrollments in Connecticut. Recognizing that the existing school was aging and nearing the end of its useful life, construction officially began after many years of planning with a groundbreaking ceremony in early June.
The new $ 446 million high school is a historic project for Stamford and the state of Connecticut, marking the largest school project in the state’ s history. Designed to accommodate approximately 2,500 students, the 450,000sf building features over 100 classrooms, including general education, science, special education, and specialized learning spaces to support career pathway programs. The 32.42-acre
campus will also include new sports fields, tennis courts, and a natatorium, providing students with expanded opportunities for athletics and recreation. The school is planned to open in August 2029.
In addition to creating a modern learning environment, the school reflects the city and state’ s environmental and sustainability priorities. It is being built to meet LEED Silver certification and the Connecticut High Performance Building Standards( HPBS). The project features significant infrastructure investments, including 195 geothermal wells, solar power, high-efficiency utility systems, and extensive site development. The building is a steel structure with a combination of
CMU and metal-panel facade.
The Dimeo – Bismark joint venture is collaborating with over 50 professionals across architecture, engineering, construction, and project management to deliver the new school. Their focus is to allow the existing school to operate continuously and safely throughout construction, and to help transform the vision of the city of Stamford and Stamford Public Schools.
Key partners include The SLAM Collaborative, Amenta Emma, and Colliers Project Leaders.
“ This investment is not just in a brand new, beautiful building. This is an investment in our students’ future, an investment in our teachers, an investment
in our families, and an investment in our city’ s future,” Mayor Caroline Simmons said, thanking all involved.
“ The goal is for the city to experience a unified team working together to address challenges and deliver the best outcome,” said Mark Banfield, client executive for Dimeo.
